What We Gain by Increasing Diversity In Research: Five New Scholars Join Policies for Action

Last year, Policies for Action issued a special call for proposals to advance health equity by actively seeking new and diverse perspectives from the policy research field. This opportunity was designed to support researchers from multiple disciplines to better understand and find solutions that will promote health equity and foster action on policies and laws that ensure all people in America can attain and preserve good health and well-being.

P4A Researchers Present on Economic Security and Health at IAPHS

Economic security and the ability to meaningfully participate in the economy are vital to individual and population health and well-being. Yet for many workers, low wages and lack of paid leave policies put them at risk for poor outcomes. Wealth and health are intricately linked—through various direct and indirect pathways—and a more nuanced understanding of these connections is key to increasing the opportunity to achieve good health.

Policies for Action Issues New Call for Proposals to Increase Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

To advance equitable and inclusive policies, we need greater diversity in policy and law research. In 2019, Policies for Action is issuing a special call for proposals to advance health equity by actively seeking new and diverse perspectives from the policy research field. This opportunity will support early-career researchers from underrepresented and historically disadvantaged backgrounds to help us understand and find solutions that promote health equity and foster action on policies and laws that ensure all people in America can attain and preserve good health and well-being.

New Policies for Action Research at the Urban Institute

All Americans deserve the chance to live a long, healthy, and productive life regardless of their income, education, birthplace, or racial or ethnic background. Evidence from research continues to grow, showing that our health is profoundly affected by where we live, how we work, and whether our communities are safe and supportive. Federal, state, and local policies and programs relating to housing, food, employment, education, and income, as well as policies in the private sector, are particularly critical.

P4A Experts Present at the AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting

On June 2-4, 2019, more than 3,000 attendees will convene in the nation’s capital at the Annual Research Meeting (ARM) to share and strengthen the evidence needed to inform the decisions that affect the health of individuals and communities. P4A researchers will present a panel examining several dimensions of housing affordability and its consequences on health and well-being.

Policies for Action Announces New Grantees

Policies for Action is proud to announce the funding of 11 new research teams as part of its mission to identify policies, laws, and other system and community levers that can help ensure everyone has the opportunity to live a healthier life.

With topics including unpredictable work schedules, food deserts, and state pre-emption, these research projects strike the heart of key policy questions that have real and immediate implications for individuals, families, and communities across the country.
