Policies for Action National Coordinating Center to Be Operated By the Urban Institute

The Urban Institute began operating the Policies for Action (P4A) National Coordinating Center (NCC) on September 1, 2016. The Urban team has taken on the administrative functions of the NCC, including grants administration, meeting logistics and coordination, and communication and dissemination support. The Urban team will continue in its role as a research hub focused on housing and food sector policies; state fiscal and income-related policies; and health care policies.

As the Center for Public Health Law Research at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law transitions out of the NCC role, Temple will take on a greater research role as a P4A research hub. The team will focus on understanding the role law plays in health inequity, and how that may impact a Culture of Health, with a focus on housing-related law.

In addition to the new Temple University hub, P4A welcomed another research hub in September, co-located at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Institute for Health Research and Policy and the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. This hub will focus on studying the implementation and impact of public policies focused on improving children’s diet and activity levels.

The hubs at the University of Michigan, New York University, and Urban will continue to conduct research within specific issue areas, such as housing, transportation, and financing and provide strategic support for the program and its grantees.

P4A will continue to fund research on the role policies, laws and other regulatory tools in the public and private sectors play in building a Culture of Health – work that is essential to the Foundation’s mission.
