The Policies for Action Research Hub at the Urban Institute currently focuses on three broad groups of health-related policies: housing and food sector policies; state fiscal and income-related policies; and health care policies. For housing and food, the Urban Institute assesses how federal housing assistance programs, joint housing and health interventions, and food assistance policies can promote health and foster cross-sector collaborations to improve health and well-being. The Hub’s income-related work observes how the earned income tax credit (EITC) and minimum wage policies affect the health of children and parents. Finally, the Urban Institute Hub examines how state policies governing out of pocket costs in private insurance plans and access to mental health services in Medicaid affect health outcomes. This work also benefits from key partners working in communities across the country: Feeding America, Living Cities, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF).
